This is the Nazareno of Portobelo, better known as the Black Christ or Cristo Negro. It's hard to date just when this came to the city, or even learn how, but it's generally thought to have arrived in the 1600s and is thought to have represented an attempt to make Christianity more directly relevant to the population.
